December 2013 - I received the first international review of my CD from Rootstime.be, a Belgian blues website. The review, which is in Dutch, can be viewed here: Feels Like Home review from Rootstime.be. A rough translation appears below:

Kevin Burke aka Barrelhouse is a New York based singer / songwriter / guitarist who presents us with his debut album "Feels Like Home." His interest in the finger-style acoustic blues stems from a trip he made through Nashville, Memphis and Mississippi. He honed as his own way of playing until he had a satisfying feeling. ... His music is a mix of Blues, Country and Bluegrass played in different keys.

The man wrote all eleven songs themselves, and especially the opener ... while the title track is the fingerpicking style and vocal harmonies a great blues song. Immediately after this the rapidly played "You Never Listen." The brilliant fingerpicking and slide work wonderfully in this issue are no less than impressive. The instrumentals "The Cadillac" and "Maine in October" there are perfect to display your full focus on the man's guitar playing and rest assured that the speedometer goes up! ... The pleasant narrative "Day At The Beach" has some apparently much needed break in the middle of the song, but after a while the pace yet again the height of excitement.

His voice reminds me a lot sometimes Loudon Wainwright III, but it is the strings game that impresses. The fabulous "Nowhere In Sight" may be illustrative here. Maybe a little slower but also breathtakingly beautiful. The somewhat slower, tending to the country, "Business As Usual" is for us one of the highlights of this release with the inventive strings and harmonious singing. But the same can be said of valve "Slappy" a country blues where the man once again seems to want to get all the stops.

Barrelhouse, not to be confused with the Dutch blues band, has a fine record on the market. He should maybe some hits for monotony in his songs, but he is at once a brilliant guitarist that lovers of the better acoustic work absolutely must discover.
